Solo Rides / Solo ride to Kasargod
« Last post by Abhijitt Murugan on August 13, 2019, 07:48:43 PM »
At times just to escape reality I prefer riding solo and this has to be one of the best things I have done and I must say my GS310 just stood upto the occasion!
400 KMS one way in under 6 hours it was a marathon ride but there were no hiccups thanks to this beast.
I happened to travel via coorg(this was before the floods) and it was an amazing experience.

I bought BMW 310 GS on 15th Aug 2018 from Kun Motors Chennai, in June i faced the Self start problem, while checking with BMW Motorrad Bangalore they confirmed that the fault is with Battery, and they are having issue with Battery replacement in Bangalore, since I took delivery from Chennai. I took the bike all the way to Chennai and Kun Motors replaced the part on 8th July 2019, They are surprised why Bangalore dealer send me all the way to Chennai since the BMW support is across India (riding 350 Km on a defective Bike).

I see more than 20 riders have reported battery issues in my group. I request BMW Motorrad to find a permanent fix to avoid such issues in coming days.

Lets Report all our experiences related to Battery drain, Alternator fail, Starter Motor issues here for the record.
1. What you have gone through as a breakdown in the middle of a highway, city etc.?
2. What was done as the 1st step of action?
3. How did you troubleshoot the situation?
4. What action sorted out the problem ?
Please help fellow riders to bring situation in control with your experiences and actions shared here. It would be a BIG HELP  :)

Also please buy fluorescent/reflective coat if your jacket is dark on color. It helps especially while riding on the night

Helmet - LS2, MT, HJC (approx. 6000)
Summer Gloves - Aspida Phaeton, Rynox Shield Pro (approx 3000)
Boots - Royal Enfield Huntsman (4500)
Jacket - Moto tech/Rynox/Solace/Aspida mesh jackets (6000)
Knee Armour from Mototech/royal Enfield/scoyco (1500)

Things to watch -
  • Level 2 armour for shoulder, elbow, back. You may have to buy back armour separately (1000)
  • Choose mesh jacket with rain and cold liners to maximise value for money

  • palm must be leather to protect from abrasion
  • knuckles must have plastic guards
  • Comfortable fit. But not loose

  • Hard inserts in toe, heel, ankle
  • leather only
  • prefer non-lace so it won't get stuck in bike during emergency

  • Full face is best
  • Double D ring fastening is best
  • should be tight when bought without pressure points
General Discussion / Re: Club Stickers
« Last post by ShajuFX on August 04, 2019, 04:45:07 PM »
We need volunteers from other cities to take care of the collection and distribution of stickers. Please contact for your city. Anything more than 50 can be shipped to you, thereby sharing it within your city or circle of riders.

We are giving 2 stickers per head from the 1st day. One for your bike and one for your helmet. A 20 rider group will need 40 stickers likewise.
General Discussion / Re: Insurance!
« Last post by flyingmachine on August 01, 2019, 09:26:06 PM »
Did some fishing around for insurance and here is what I found:
Currently ICICI seems to be the only insurance company that is cashless through out the BMW network. I could be wrong, but guys from other cities do give us your inputs. I did get a quote from BMW Mumbai, but it seems to be quite high, and does not include a few critical covers.
Since this bike is model is still within a year of its launch, companies like Acko and Bajaj do not have this bike listed on their websites.

I did get three quotes to compare between, but given the premium amount, declared IDV and basic add ons like zero depreciation, return to invoice, and engine cover United India Insurance seemed to be the most reasonable one. I ended up paying Rs 6200 for an IDV of Rs 330,000 with all these covers. To keep in mind, I did have a claim this year so I could not avail the no claim bonus. However, they DO NOT HAVE a CASHLESS setup with BMW yet and I do not have any experience with them, but I do hear they seem to be a popular choice among the Versys riding community in Bangalore.

Got it through an agent, recommended by the Versys group. Please quote that you are BMW RCI members for a good quote. I have attached his contact details below.

Hopefully we don't have to make a claim this year and life is peaceful : )
